“Won’t start” on these cars often means the cabin is fully dark. The traction pack can still hold plenty of range. The small 12-volt battery boots the computers, locks, and screens. Tysons garages, airport lots, and other long sits

Tysons isn’t an incorporated city. It’s a Fairfax County census-designated place packed with office decks. The mall is still called Tysons Corner Center. Cars sit through a full workday, a dinner, or a movie. A GV60 that arrived a little low can stop maintaining the 12-volt. By evening, the flush handles never present.

Second cars in McLean and Potomac sit even longer. An estate garage can hold a GV60 that barely turns a wheel. A few quiet weeks with an aging 12-volt is enough to go flat.

Housing stock changes the home-plug story, not the sit story. Takoma Park’s housing is about 90 percent pre-1980. Annandale, Wheaton, and the District also skew old. A Level 2 run was never part of those houses. Ashburn, Gainesville, and Centreville are much newer, so a home plug is more common. Either way, a 12-volt can die in a closed garage.

Treat it as the 12-volt when you see this:

  • Interior lights, chime, and screens stay off when you open a door

  • You hear one faint click, then silence

GV60 versus GV70: where the battery hides

The jump points are in the engine bay on both cars. The actual battery isn’t always where you clamp.

On the GV60 crossover, the 12-volt sits up front under the hood. That layout is close to the Ioniq 5. On the Electrified GV70, it can sit under trim rather than in plain view. Either way, you usually don’t jump from the battery’s own posts.

Use the interior hood release first. Look for the black fuse-box cover on the driver’s side. Lift the red cap for the positive post. Ground on a bare metal bolt, a strut tower or a firewall point.   1. Open the hood from the interior release.
  2. Find the driver’s-side fuse box in the bay.

  6. On a donor car, match positive to positive and negative to negative. Then start the donor.

  8. Try start. The boot can take a few extra seconds after a flat 12-volt.

If the dash is on and the pack is empty

Not every unresponsive Genesis is a 12-volt failure. When the displays work and the car won’t enter drive, you have a charging problem. The same is true if it warns that it’s out of range. A jump does nothing in that case. You need energy in the traction pack.
